"We make the path by walking"
Walker, there is no road
You make the road as you walk
Walker, there is no road
And when one sees behind
One sees the road that will not be traveled again
Walker, there is no road
But wake on the sea
Antonio Machado
The poem above reflects the notion of journey the Pastoral Care ministry travels. Every year something new has emerged to stretch and challenge the way we do and see things and our need to rethink what it means to provide pastoral care.
Breaking new ground is always difficult. All involved are to be applauded for their courage and commitment to new ways. Pioneering something new opens the possibilities for others who might have similar wishes.
We are living in a community where many in the congregation are aging and living with life threatening illness. So much can be learned from the wisdom, integrity, courage we witness in these fine people. This concern also leads us to an awareness that a pastoral response requires us to bring information to the congregation from health care - End of Life Network - so that people might be informed about choices they have with regard to end of life and ultimately quality of life issues.
