HYMN                                       232, Joyful, Joyful We Adore You

CHORAL INTROIT

Sing your praise to God eternal, sing your praise to God the Son,

sing your praise to God the Spirit, living and forever One.

God has made us, God has blessed us, God has called us to be true.

God rules over all creation, daily making all things new.

WELCOME AND LIGHTING OF THE CHRIST CANDLE

CALL TO WORSHIP (congregation please read bold print)

The voice of God is heard in all the world.

In troubled lands, where people hunger and fear, it speaks of compassionate action.

The voice of God is heard in the church.

In encouragement of each other, in support of wider church, it speaks of community.

The voice of God is heard within each one of us.

It speaks of acceptance, it speaks of forgiveness, it speaks of peace, it speaks of hope.

It speaks now; it will never be silent!

Let us listen to God’s voice.

OPENING PRAYER (congregation please read bold print)

You have blessed us with the sunlit glory of summer days.

And we praise you, Creator God.

You have blessed us with a Christian community of friends.

And we rejoice in our mutual support, O God.

You have blessed us with questioning, enthusiastic young persons, and with older persons full of good sense.

Together they are our strength, O God.

You have blessed us with a church which stands with the powerless.

We’re So Glad You Came!

September 5th, 2010

We know it reflects your mercy and compassion in the willingness to work joyfully with fellow Christians, in the reality of discipleship’s cost, new life is ours, abundant life is possible.

Thanks be to God!   Amen

Wanted – 4Litre Plastic Milk Bags

The Haliburton United Church Women are partnering with Haiti Mission Lindsay to create plastic sleeping mats that can be shipped to Haiti.  Will you please save your outer plastic bags that hold the individual milk bags (not the inner bags that actually hold the milk).  The Haliburton UCW is aiming for a work bee in September to see how many mats they can make.  The plastic mats will replace mats made from reeds and grasses as biting insects and scorpions do not like the plastic.  A box is in the narthex for you to place the plastic bags in.
